Excursions

Lake Skadar

This excursion offers a boat tour on Lake Skadar, the largest lake in southeastern Europe, an important resting and feeding area for migratory birds, a designated site under the Ramsar Convention on wetlands.

Following a short bus ride inland to the small town Virpazar, a gateway to Lake Skadar National Park, a boat will take you on a three-hour cruise to discover the beauties of the lake, its diverse flora and fauna, to hear the stories of turbulent times in Montenegrin history witnessed by the fortresses and monasteries dotted along its shores and on its islands.

The boat will also make a stop so you can enjoy a swim in the lake. After disembarkation in Virpazar we will take a lunch break, lake fish on the menu.

Trebinje

The first reference to Trebinje dates back to the 10th century when Constantine Porphyrogenitus referred to it as Tribunija. At that time, Trebinje was on the caravan route that led from Kotor and Dubrovnik to Bosnia, Serbia and Montenegro. The first urban settlement takes on the contours of the Middle Ages.

At the beginning of the New Era and the Middle Ages, Trebinje Region was being developed under the strong influence of the Byzantine Empire, but in the 15th century, long after gaining the independence, it fell under the centuries-long Ottoman rule, and consequently became part of Austria-Hungary until 1918.

This style is fitted in the Mediterranean center of Trebinje. The turbulent history in the region has left its traces and monuments of cultural and historical heritage: the medieval necropolis, where two 12th century inscriptions in Cyrillic were discovered, the Tvrdoš Monastery (4th – 6th century), Longer Monastery (16th century), St Peter and Paul Monastery (4th- 6th century), Zavala Monastery (13th century).
